OPTIMIZING ICA & RDP FOR VIRTUALIZATION : VIRTUALIZATION MADE CLEAR

Scores of enterprises are trying out virtualization in the data center, lured by potential benefits such as improved server utilization, reduced OS licensing fees, more rapid deployments and lower power consumption. To tap into that trend, Expand Networks is going virtual…

Driven by pressures to reduce datacenter and operation costs and the drive towards greener IT, a consensus of industry analysts project that upwards of 60% of all enterprises will implement some form of virtualization within the next three years.

In addition to the many known benefits of virtualization, physical server consolidation is estimated to lower the carbon footprint by up to 80 % for a greener IT environment.

NETWORK VIRTUALIZATION: From the Data Center to the Desktop

Around the industry these days, you’ll hear the term virtualization bandied about in a number of different sectors. Today’s typical use of the term is the later day incarnation of the client-server application technology from the 1990’s where physical computing resources are consolidated into a centralized and managed network environment. Originally the term popped up in its earliest incarnation in the systems and desktop areas. System and network administrators latched onto the concept as a way to better utilize data center and server resources while at the same time reduce physical server head count. This lent itself well to a growing trend toward rationalizing hardware resources that, in many cases, were vastly underutilized.

OPTIMIZING CITRIX WITH EXPAND NETWORKS: Enhancing Server-Based Computing Performance

Server-based computing solutions, like Citrix, are popular among enterprises, as they promise to simplify the application infrastructure and reduce costs. Additionally, these solutions often meet strict government regulations and promote business continuity. Economics and regulatory compliance are pushing enterprises to look for better ways to manage their applications and data. Often, one of the best solutions is to centralize both the applications and the data. Citrix’s Presentation Server has made this consolidation possible both from a management perspective and from a user performance and economical perspective

VIRTUAL DESKTOP CONSOLIDATION USING EXPAND NETWORKS’ COMPASS

Desktop consolidation is the next step in IT consolidation project providing real cost reduction and operational simplicity benefits to the enterprise. Like other consolidation projects, desktop consolidation, must address user productivity, application performance and security issues directly derived from deployment over the wide area network. This paper will provide an overview of desktop consolidation, the utilization of VDI in this environment and the inherent need for WAN Optimization stemming there from.

EXPAND TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

VDI \VEE-DEE-I\, noun:

1) Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) is the practice of hosting a desktop operating system within a virtual machine (VM) running on a centralized server. VDI is a variation on the client/server computing model, sometimes referred to as server-based computing (SBC).

2) In the past couple of years, some large organizations have turned to VDI as an alternative to the server-based computing model used by Citrix and Microsoft Terminal Services

VWAN \VEE-wan\, noun:

1) Acronym for Virtual WAN Optimization.

2) WAN Optimization that can be deployed as a virtual service or appliance.
